PAYE Refund Email Scam

Posted on Wednesday, 08 September 2010 01:22PM by
The major news that 6 million people have paid tax incorrectly under PAYE has opened the door again to a scam whereby a false email purporting to be from HMRC is used to gain details of taxpayer bank accounts.

An example is as follows:

Tax Refund Notification.
After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activities, we have concluded that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of 1,500.89 GBP.
Please submit the tax refund request and give us 2-3 days in order to process it.

Click Here to submit your tax refund request.

Note : A refund can be delayed due to a variety of reasons, for example submitting invalid records or applying after deadline.

Best Regards,
HM Revenue & Customs.
